Thank you for endorsing the AGE Manifesto.

Malik Azmani
Member of the European Parliament
Renew Europe
“Renew Europe wants the EU to invest in people of all age groups in order to advance our union of solidarity between generations. We must take into account the valuable contribution that older people make to our society through their experience and knowledge.”

Milan Brglez
Member of the European Parliament
Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats
“The AGE Manifesto 2024 is an indispensable guide that should inspire policymakers in the forthcoming Parliamentary term putting the rights of older persons at the forefront of EU decision-making, as well as unite MEPs in their continuous work in the format of the parliamentary Intergroup on Solidarity between Generations.”

Daniela Rondinelli
Member of the European Parliament
Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats
“The European Union must protect older people, building an intergenerational agreement, adopting measures for social and healthcare long-term assistance, adequate pensions, and old-age minimum income. We believe that older people must have an active role in European society.”

“Ageing is a positive thing. It shouldn’t be and cannot be seen only as a cost.
Ageing population is an asset and invaluable resource for all of us: ageing means accumulating wisdom, experiences and comparative knowledge, and for this we need intergenerational cooperation. We cannot bring our world forward without having connections between younger and older professionals.
This is why I am supporting having in place EU Age Equality Strategy. Healthy ageing is of utmost importance to preserve intergenerational solidarity. We need more accessibility in our societies to include different groups of people and avoid age discrimination.”

Radka Maxová
Member of the European Parliament
Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats
“Older people, particularly women, face significant underrepresentation in public spaces and media, frequently confined to health product ads. Launching more active ageing campaigns, and integrating older actors and actresses into commercials and cinema, can challenge stereotypes and illustrate the potential for a significant role, regardless of age.”

“EUROMIL’s endorsement of the AGE Manifesto signifies a significant commitment to advancing the well-being, equality, and rights of military personnel across Europe. By standing in solidarity with the principles outlined in the manifesto, EUROMIL underscores the importance of ensuring good working conditions, proper healthcare, and adequate pension systems for active serving personnel.
Protecting these rights isn’t merely about the present; it’s about securing them for future generations. By advocating for the rights of military personnel, EUROMIL not only prioritizes the dignity and welfare of those currently serving but also lays the groundwork for a more equitable and sustainable future for all. “There is not yet a clear awareness, either in public opinion or among professional politicians, about the profound impact of the demographic transformation caused by the ongoing increase in life expectancy. As a baby boomer, I am starting to realize that our generation has gained a life expectancy bonus of more than 30 years. This is a promising indication that humans may soon live routinely to 100 years or more.
Therefore, it is urgent to promote a radical transformation in our mindset and societal framework in response to this new longevity. This means recognizing that reaching 50 now marks the beginning of the second half of our adult lives. We must address the shift in mentality and societal structures to ensure we can live longer, healthier lives and continue contributing to society as active citizens as we age.
This is why I strongly support the AGE Manifesto as a crucial and timely wake-up call.

“When we think about ageing, we need to look at it from a longevity perspective, because the way we deal with retirement is, largely, a reflection of the resources we accumulate throughout life course. That’s why it’s necessary to reduce inequalities by creating access to education, work, housing, healthcare and social protection so that we can live with dignity. Society needs to be connected across all generations in order to create bonds and develop projects that demonstrate the potential of different ages, contributing to reducing ageism.”

Founder & CEO of Across the Seven Seas
“As a consultant, journalist and speaker dedicated to promoting an active and healthy life after 50, it is with great enthusiasm that I endorse the AGE Manifesto. I firmly believe in the principles and values it advocates, especially when it comes to intergenerational diversity, continuous learning, and combating ageism.
First and foremost, the AGE Manifesto deeply resonates with me and my initiative Across the Seven Seas for its advocacy of intergenerational diversity in the workplace. I believe that companies and organizations can only truly thrive when they value and integrate the experiences and perspectives of all age groups. Intergenerational experiences not only enrich organizational culture but also foster an environment of learning and mutual growth.
Additionally, as a passionate advocate for lifelong learning, I see the AGE Manifesto as a vehicle to promote this mindset. Life after 50 is not the end but rather a new phase filled with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Learning new things, acquiring skills, and staying updated are essential to remaining relevant and competitive in an ever-evolving world.
As an activist against ageism, I also recognize the importance of the AGE Manifesto in combating age-related prejudice and promoting a culture of respect and inclusion for all ages. Everyone deserves to be valued and respected regardless of age, and it is crucial to challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that can limit the opportunities and potential of older individuals.
Finally, the message of optimism and empowerment in the AGE Manifesto resonates deeply with me, my work and my approach to life. I firmly believe that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and live a full and meaningful life. With the right guidance and support, we can all reach our full potential regardless of age.”

Recognizing the shared goal of enhancing the quality of life and health outcomes for all Europeans, endorsing the AGE Manifesto aligns with the SHD Coalition’s mission to prioritize holistic approaches to health policy. By endorsing the AGE Manifesto, the SHD Coalition acknowledges the importance of addressing age-related issues comprehensively, advocating for policies that promote inclusiveness, and fostering a society where individuals of all ages can thrive and access equitable healthcare services.”

“I’m 51 years old, and I have mobility difficulties due to an accident. From the first line, I see how difficult it is to do ordinary things in my neighborhood. The city hall obliges me to use a ramp to go to the cultural center. Unofficially, they tell me that if it’s too difficult for me to walk up the ramp, then I should use an electric wheelchair, because the law is okay with the ramp. I have a master’s degree, and I can write here to explain this silly and terrible situation. I think about all the older people who can’t stand up and defend themselves, and I write for them. I feel exhausted from dealing with barriers, and I cry many times, but city barriers are here waiting for us to age. We should change our cities for everyone, because age and dependency come across. Older people and people like me with mobility difficulties deserve more care in the streets, on the bus, at the supermarket. We deserve more accessible cities and more tenderness. The sooner, the better.

“We, older people from social democracies want to stand for solidarity: solidarity between people, solidarity for those who are less fortunate, solidarity between generations! We are a very active member in AGE Europe and strongly support the manifesto.
The European project brought greater well-being for more people, economic and social development for all, and peace! National or specific interests became common interests. These achievements are the result of a political and social struggle, but also of a thorough dialogue between visions of society that all endorse fundamental human rights.
Our societies are facing enormous challenges: ageing population, climate change, war and aggression at our borders and erosion of representative democracy. The solution is not to turn inwardly and choose the self-interest of one’s “people”, one’s “own community”, one’s “own country”. The solution lies in cooperation, solidarity, and the redistribution of wealth so that everybody benefits.
As older people, we want to help shaping the future: yes, we are the witnesses of the past, but also the actors in the present and the co-builders of the future of our children and grandchildren and of the generations that will come after them.“

“Ageism remains widespread in Europe, hindering our ability to fully embrace the potential of population ageing and to recognize that expenditures on older populations are an investment rather than a cost.
Endorsing the AGE Manifesto 2024 is essential as it prompts the European Parliament to address these challenges. This involves acknowledging both current and future generations of older Europeans and implementing strategies to create an inclusive society for all ages. The manifesto emphasizes promoting equality, combating ageism, encouraging participation, and fostering healthy ageing and well-being. It urges the European Parliament to ensure that every person, regardless of age, can enjoy a fulfilling life. I hope many others endorse this Manifesto so that we can jointly create a society for all ages in Europe!”
