About

Why this Manifesto and why this Interest Group?

The European Parliament is the only European institution that directly represents the voice of the 447 million citizens of the European Union.

Given the impact of European legislations and policies at national level, it is important that citizens – including older people – are actively involved in the debates on the EU action.

AGE Platform Europe encourages its member organisations and civil society to engage with candidates to ensure that newly elected MEPs will take up challenges related to ageing demographics and address pervasive ageism in partnership with older persons’ organisations in the next parliamentary term 2019-2024-2029.

About AGE Platform Europe

AGE Platform Europe is an European network of organizations working for the interests and rights of older people. With the vision of “Toward A society for ALL ages,” AGE advocates for an inclusive society that focuses on well-being, autonomy, and equal participation in all stages of life. The organization aims to combat ageism, promote human rights, and raise awareness on issues that affect older persons across the European Union.

In our fight against prevailing age stigma and ageism, we promote a more realistic image of older age. Read our short guide to avoid stereotypical communication when talking about ageing and older people.
